About Kevin Donovan
I have been fortunate enough to do what many people dream of doing, playing professional football for a living. I started off playing for Elland Athletic in the Halifax league as an 8 year old.
I was then picked up from there by Huddersfield Town, and trained at the centre of excellence. At 16 I became an apprentice and was given my first professional contract on my 17th birthday.
After making 30 appearances for the club I was bought by Ossie Ardiles (World Cup winner with Argentina ) for West Bromwich Albion.
I played there for 5 years enjoying promotion and scoring at Wembley in the play off final in the first year.
I then moved on to Grimsby Town where I became their record signing,
scoring 21 goals from midfield, in the first season. Again I was fortunate enough to play at Wembley a further two times, scoring the only goal in the play off final to gain promotion.
After speaking with a number of clubs when my contract ended I decided to join Barnsley on a four year contract. I finished my career with a short spell at Rochdale and a final season at York City before moving into full time coaching.
I played over 500 first team games scoring 69 goals over a 17 year period as a professional footballer.
